Denikin Restaurant Treats with Schi and Buckwheat Porridge Pudding

Redaktor, 26 February 2013

What do you like to eat with sauerkraut schi? Fresh rye bread covered with butter? Did you ever try it with buckwheat porridge? Schi and porridge is a perfect combination! Just classical!

Many years ago the Russian taverns used to serve a plate of schi with a pot of buckwheat porridge. Later rich citizens had distraction in brains and many 'educated families' got embarrassed about traditional Russian table. However, they used to serve schi on the table but it was not good to put a pot of porridge besides. And at that time buckwheat porridge pudding described by Shmelev who spelled this word a little bit differently like in spoken Russian, supported the Russian table, while Gogol left a record in his notebook that "buckwheat porridge pudding means bread baked of buckwheat flour".

Sauerkraut schi are served at Denikin restaurant with buckwheat porridge pudding instead of bread and mealy buckwheat porridge. They are cooked per the old recipe especially for favourite guests!
