Bakery Cafe Strogel

Strogel is a democratic cafe with a variety of pastries baked every day there and Russian and European dishes in the menu. 

One of the special dish of the bakery cafe is strog: it combines characteristics of classic pie and Wiener strudel and has a crispy crust. The name of the pie was created by cafe owners which has given the name to the cafe afterwards. Traditional Russian pies have a great variety of fillings: feta and spinach, plums, herring and potatoes, apples, cottage cheese and cherry.    Only fresh berries and fruits are used to cook sweet pies here without jams. 

Strogel is above all a story of pies but not limited with it. The menu unites local and European culinary traditions. Among popular dishes of Russian and European cuisines there are hush browns, beef Stroganoff, Russian fish soup, a la russe salad with baked potatoes and herring, Greek salad, Caesar and other. A list of special courses includes Multashen (based on mincemeat wrapped in dough), Tender chicken liver pate and own smoked salmon parfait. The breakfast menu is available from 9 am to the noon and includes Grandma's porridge and three kinds of omelet. For a dessert, you may order cherry, apple or cottage cheese own made strudel, ice-cream or sorbets. 

Among drinks there is Illy coffee and Newby sorts of tea such as Milk Oolong, ginger with lemon, Earl Grey, Assam, Green Sencha. Espresso is made in a coffee machine delivered from Italy and the quality of coffee is controlled by Italian representatives. There are six kinds of milk cocktails, fresh juices, tasty homemade sea buckthorn and red bilberry infusions. 

A spacious Strogel house accommodating about 80 people is designed in light colours. The designer was invited to work on the image of the cafe and totally it took about three months to finish the project. The interior is neat and cosy. Red and golden glazed sofas with high backs serve as bright accents, while round tables work well with Wiener chairs. In the first hall there is a huge stand with pies: you may also takeaway pastries. The second hall disposes for dinners and slow tea ceremonies.  

The elegant easiness of Strogel interior is a good background for many paintings on the walls. You may enjoy looking at paintings of Petersburg artists and even buy them if you like. The exposition will keep updating.  Besides developing expositions, the project owners are going to make Strogel a chain during a year and to open a few other Strogel cafes at the city centre.
