Some eighty years ago the «Zagorodny» restaurant indeed used to be in the country, outside Moscow, near a most beautiful village of Streshnevo. Birds were singing, flowers were blossoming, and the atmosphere was perfect for a comfortable rest and a nourishing feast. So much has changed since then, Moscow has expanded greatly, but the hospitality of «Zagorodny», and its almost century-old traditions have remained. It is still wonderful to celebrate merry weddings and enjoy fresh air, skills of invited dancers, to listen to favourite musicians and even to visit a sauna – it is so good here that children and grandchildren of those who used to come here when they were young visit the restaurant with pleasure and bring their own children.
In «Zagorodny» everyone will find a nook to his or her taste: you can choose a summer pergola at a waterfall, one of VIP chambers, or any of the halls. You can sit in the Golden Hall with pictures on classic plots and exquisite table laying, in the former Hunters' Hall or upstairs – on a verandah designed as a big theatrical balcony, that has a fine view of a lower Red Hall and a stage. And everything reminds of the glorious past of the restaurant: high ceilings, luxurious chandeliers, mirrors, massive aquariums with rare fishes.
In such a place one certainly wants to try classic Russian dishes – borscht, solianka, Chicken Kiev. Those who prefer European, Eastern or Caucasian cuisines will not be disappointed either: there is literally everything on the rich and diverse menu of the «Zagorodny», from dorado in orange sauce, steaks and duck breast fillet in honey to dolma, kurza, kutabs, dushpara, lula kebabs and shashlik skewers. What impresses most of all is the «Georgian section» of the menu with hominy, khinkali, buglava, chakhokhbili, several kinds of khachapuri and wines.
