“The old man took some vodka from an enameled kettle and had a zraza, tasting like happy childhood”. Isaac Babel wrote about people in Odessa, their everyday life so lively, bright and truly. That’s how the Babel Restaurant presents the very zest of Odessa cuisine to those, who live or visit Moscow.

The restaurant, located in a cosy lane between the Garden Ring and Smolenskaya embankment, is opened in the centre of the city; it is a unique project from the cuisine and design points of view.

The creative and comfortable atmosphere of the place can be described as cosy modernity and artistic functionality. It was created by the Beletage design group and Mikhail Revva, the popular artist, who made a series of collages rendering stories about the life of Odessa dwellers.

The Babel seems a diverse and original place to those who came here for the first time, they want to see every corner and lamp or plate, and taste all the dishes after they try the first one.

There is a plenty of them! Alyona Komar, the brand chef, is an innate of Odessa, splendid hostess and professional chef; she could convey the very bit of traditional Odessa taste to guests – Black Sea gobbies fried in a pan as it was 50 years ago, forshmak, Stroganoff or rissoles made with Black Sea sprat served with potato mash.

Except for authentic Odessa cuisine, classical European dishes and chef’s variations are also presented here.

All the pastry – paste, tartlets or compound desserts – is baked in-house. All authentic products like sweet brynza sold in the Privoz Market are delivered straight from Odessa. Everything the restaurant offers is made to realize: the complexity of the life is in its lightness.
