Would you like to have dinner in calm ambience sitting at a table neighbouring with famous actors, poets, stage presenters? Would you like to make a usual evening breath with a bohemian and art spirit? Then Dom Aktera (The Actor's House) restaurant will perfectly suit you.
The name of the restaurant is justified for 100%: Dom Aktera is a house gathering actors to have rest after a hard day, to have a conversation about art, to organize a creative reception or to celebrate an important event.
It's been facilitated by the location of the restaurant – it's situated on Stary Arbat, 35, just opposite the Vakhtangov Theatre.
The personnel are proud that Doma Aktera is familiar and loved by all actors in Moscow as it appeared in 1937! However, in those times the restaurant was situated in a different place – on Tverskaya street (Gorkogo street in that period) and was known to city bohemia as VTO (famous All-Union Theatre Society). It was a big honour to be there!.. Unfortunately, the building on Tverskaya street burnt in 1990, the Soviet Union collapsed but the restaurant loved by actors and Moscow dwellers was re-born on Arbat, the symbolic street of new Russian culture.
Since Dom Aktera was initially designed as an actors' club, its menu is based on actors' preferences. Russian and European cuisines are mostly performed there but there are also some Caucasian dishes, especially loved by visitors (for example, Osetian pies cooked per firm recipes there). Dom Aktera will greet you with simple, decent, not expensive but incredibly tasty and copious dishes because the club is primarily designed for communication, so the meal should not be an obstacle for people.
The majority of recipes have been inherited from VTO restaurant. They are, for instance, Pike Perch Orly style, Brisol, Admiral cutlets ordered by Plyatt, Utesov, Yanshin on Gorkogo street in olden times... Borodinskaya herring, aromatic herring fillet in thick nut-tomato sauce is a dish with a special history: the recipe was invented by famous Yakov Rozental, the former restaurant Director, called by friends Boroda. You'll also find well-known modern names in the menu: one of the most delightful starters is called ‘Big hello from M.A. Eskina (Director of Central Actor's House), then Shirvindt's omelet is cooked per recipe granted by Alexander Shirvindt.
Please don't think that such a cosy and extravagant place is a pie-in-the-sky for stars which simple people cannot dare to dream about. Any person who wants to have a tasty dinner and maybe – who knows? – to be photographed with a favourite actor, may always get in a calm Arbat lane, ascend on the sixth floor and Dom Aktera will open the doors in front of you!
